Welcome to Wiener Dogs - The Canadian Dachshund Lovers Page! We've got lots of interesting things for you to explore. Look through our many pages of breed information, breeders listings, care and feeding info, dachshund facts, trivia, jokes, and games. We also proudly display pictures of dachshund pets from around the world. So come spend some time with us.

The Canadian Dachshund Lovers Page was inspired by The Western Dachshund Club. They hold events of interest to all Dachshund Owners in British Columbia, and Western Canada. The Western Dachshund Club also hosts an Annual Championship Specialty Show in October at the Tradex Centre in Abbottsford, BC, and a fun day, "Dachshund Picnic and Wiener Walk" for all Dachshunds on the second Sunday in August at Winskill Park in Tsawassen, Delta, BC.

The 2012 Dachshund Picnic & Wiener Walk:

This year's Picnic was a success! With specatular sunshine and over
100 dogs and their people in tow, fun was everwhere.

Have you seen the Dachshund UN? It's the brain child of Bennett Miller. It's currenlty making it's way around the world and it's stopping in Canada, in Toronto! So have a look at the poster and if your dog can is smart, he/she can apply to the Dachshund UN on-line!

I'm your host, Bob Brennert.

Finding a Dachshund

If you're hoping to find a Dachshund posted here available in your area, you might be waiting a quite a while. Please contact a local breeder on my Canadian Breeders page, that is available on the inside pages.

Canadian Dachshund RescueOr... How about adopting and older dog? the Canadian Dachshund Rescue is always looking for good homes for dogs that for one situation or another can no longer live with their original families.

The Dachshund Rescue of North America is a great place to look as well. They have an advanced search tool that let's be very specific about the kind of dog you're looking for.

You can also try PetFinder.com. It's a website that lets you search for dogs at shelters throughout North America by dog type and location.

What/Who is Wienerdogs?   Well, the Wienerdogs site has been on the Web since 1997, however it started out as www.dachshund.bc.ca. The site started out as just a fun thing to do but quickly grew into what you see here today.  I'm continually updating the page as time permits, and all the new stuff shows up on this page, just below, so keep an eye on it! And here's a tip: Most of the links have pop-up pictures, so if you have a popup killer, you should disable it before proceeding.

Do you have a question you would like ask a breeder? Our network of experienced Dachshund breeders is available to answer your curious or troubling questions. Simply E-mail Darrin Pettitt @ Admindac Kennel.  It might take a few days for him to get back to you so please be patient. Thanks.

Ann Carey, writer of The Dachshund: An Owner's Guide to a Happy, Healthy Pet said:

"I can assure you that there's no dog like this dog. No companion as comical, as loving or as adaptable. His goal in life is to love you, protect you, and be your very best friend."

And she is right!

So did you see it? On April 14th, 2012, www.Google.ca had Robert Doisneau as the Google Doodle for the day. On the bottom of the doodle was pciture he took in Paris in 1977 called Le Chien a Roulettes. It featured a older Standard Dachshund on a wheelchair cart.

Have you ever tried to paint your home when you Doxie was around? Well if you're going to try it, be vigilant, very vigilant as you might just end up with a helper.

Dachshunds on T-Shirts? There must be hundreds. But this one caught my eye. Even thought to get it for my bride. Right now you can still get it on-line.

Speaking of pretty people tryin to sell you fancy clothes. I found this picture in a The Bay online flyer. A handful indeed.

Do you needa a portable dog kennel? Pet Mate has a line of two door units, one in the front (typical), plus one on top. A moon roof if you will. Kind of cool if you think about it. And just to make sure we notice, they use a Dachshund to help advertise it. Sorry I donlt have a larger picture.

Had another good laugh when I read about people taking their dogs to work, but this time in the Costco Connection.

I always love to find stuffed Dachshunds (not the real kind). These are cute.

WARNING! Do not take off your sweater or sweatshirt in the the presence of your Doxie, then leave the room. It's "warm" recipe for disaster! And yes, that's my Spencer.
Even Vouge, that fashionable magazine can't escape the pull of Wiener Dog and their various kinds!

Well now you have to admit, if your name was Anthony Weiner, and you had camera phone handy would you take a picture of your you know what and sent it out over a Twitter feed? He's giving us a bad name.

OK I'm keen on having fun with your Doxie dog, but what in haven's name is this all about?

I'm not to sure if the dog int this animated GIF is or is not a Dachshund. There is one for sure in the clip. The dog in question performs a fantastic bit of acrobatics to scale a fence to get back in the yard.

I just love kooky Dachshund artwork:

I know you've heard that people look like other people, or their dogs, or just look like an animal. I found this liitle morsel online. It features Snoop Dog the "Musical" artist. Now what kind of dog do you think he looks like? If you want to have a peek at the full image, here ya go.

Ha Ha, a Dachsdund made out of squash!

I've often wondered if there is such a thing as Accidental Voodo?

"As it is", that's the name of this wine produced by micro-winery Thierry Puzelat. While the wine has nothing to do with Dachshunds, the name is very similar to Teckel, French for Dachshund, so there's a Dacshund on the bottle!
While in Ottawa inNovember 2011, and radmonly walking about, I came accross this fine looking establishment. To bad I'd already eaten breakfast.

Now I almost can't belive it. A game for kids that had them clean up Doggie Doo? It can't be, can it?

Did you know that if you plan on treking in the Grand Canyon, you're not allowed to take your little Doxie with you? He's not welcome. This info come straight from the Canyon Guide.

Based on the simple idea that Dachshunds come in almost as many a varieties as people do, artist Bennett Miller created "The Dachshund U.N.", art performance outside the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney Australia, June 3, 2012. Oh boy wouldn't it have been fun to have seen that! And Miller actually did a bunch of these shows.

Did you catch the movie Hugo? It was nominated for Best Picture in 2011. A Martin Scorsese film, shot to take advantage of Computer Graphics and 3D, it's an ineresting story of an orphan boy in Paris. One sub plot is an older man trying to a acquaint himself with a lady. She however has a dog who lets the man know, he's not welcome. Of course the dog is a Dachshund (long haired). At the end of the movie, to have a better chance with the lady, he brings along a date for her Dachshund. Very Cute.

Our Featured Friends

Hi Bob, This is Frankenstein.

He is our rambunctious 18 month-old miniature. He has bucket-loads of energy and is extremely inquisitive. Despite his name, he his both a sweetheart and a Casanova. He recently sired a litter of 5 and will soon have one of his sons to keep him distracted and (hopefully) out of mischief.

Hopefully he makes a good candidate for your site's featured dog.

Take care and best wishes.

Chris from Toronto.
