To all visitors: Thank you for all you support over the years and thank you for all your stories and photos as well. I'm sorry I no longer have time read my E-mail. With a full time job and teaching fitness four times a week I no longer can manage the site as it deserves. So officially the site is now for sale. If you love those little long rascals and have the passion to manage a web site, then send me an E-mail expressing your interest: bob@ cknw.com.

Check out the  Wiener-O-Matic. Our random dog generator. I compiled the pictures people have sent me and put them all together here. Some dogs may appear more random than others, but I assure you, there no favoritism here.

Dachshund Sightings

In a new Suzuki Grand Vitara commercial, a tough mountain climber meets a Dad while climbing. The Dad has a child in a backpack, and Dachshund in a harness by his side. The dogs looks unimpressed with the situation.

There's also a new Iam's dog food commercial that features a bunch of dogs. Near the beginning we see a Dachshund Puppy playing.

What/Who is Wienerdogs.org?   Well, the Wienerdogs.org site has been on the Web since 1997, however it started out as www.dachshund.bc.ca. The site started out as just a fun thing to do but quickly grew into what you see here today.  I'm continually updating the page as time permits, and all the new stuff shows up on this page, so keep an eye on it! And here's a small tip: Most of the links have pop-up pictures, so if you have a popup killer, you should disable it before proceeding.

And only since January 2006 did I resort to advertising to help offset the costs of running the site. Other than that, I (only one guy) take care of everything.

Do you have a question you would like ask a breeder? Our network of experienced Dachshund breeders is available to answer your curious or troubling questions. Simply E-mail Darrin Pettitt @ Admindac Kennel.  It might take a few days for him to get back to you so please be patient. Thanks.

Ann Carey, writer of The Dachshund: An Owner's Guide to a Happy, Healthy Pet said:

"I can assure you that there's no dog like this dog. No companion as comical, as loving or as adaptable. His goal in life is to love you, protect you, and be your very best friend."

And she is right!

Finding a Dachshund

If you're hoping to find a Dachshund posted here available in your area, you might be waiting a quite a while. Please contact a local breeder on my Canadian Breeders page, that is available on the inside pages.

Canadian Dachshund RescueOr... How about adopting and older dog? the Canadian Dachshund Rescue is always looking for good homes for dogs that for one situation or another can no longer live with their original families.

How Low Can You Go? Well the Calgary Low Riders Club is trying to find out. If you live in the Calgary area, look 'em up: www.calgarylowriders.ca

John Martin says that in the original animated cartoon series Jonny Quest from the 1960's, there was an episode called "Shadow of the Condor" that had a Dachshund. It was featured in quite a few scenes, one in which he almost got picked up by a huge condor. To bad Bandit wasn't a Dachshund!

I received a note from Peter Chang who works for a company called Dillonworks in Mukilteo, Washington. His boss's wife, Carol Dillon is the artist of this interesting picture of a purse. She does more that that one too.

Helping orphaned pets and animals is a noble deed. The website www.helpinghomelesspets.com is just one of many organizations that find homes for pets. Use the site link or contact Rob Goddard (905-471-3430)for more information.

From Westland Gift's HOT DIGGITY Collection, this is one of twelve very interesting looking Dachshund curios. To bad the pic isn't high rez.

In the 1932 Goopy Geer Looney Tunes Catroon, not only do Goopy and his gal start dancing, a dachshund drinks liquor so potent it burns away part of his torso (leaving him much shorter than his dancing partner)

Victorian poet Matthew Arnold (1822–1888) wrote a poem called Geist's Grave for his Dachshund Geist after he passed away. The Cambridge History of English and American Literature calls the poem "one of the most beautiful things of its kind in the language."

So there's a new documentary coming out about the sport of Dachshund racing. Feature length "dogumentary" is a behind the scenes glimpse at the surprisingly political world of competitive dachshunds. Here's a video. More info at www.wienertakesall.com.

I have a couple samples of origami wiener dogs on my site, but wasn't I surprised when I received the instructions on how to to make an  origami wiener dog from a one dollar bill! Well that will be a bit of a challenge for us Canadians as we no longer as we no longer have dollar bills (or tows for that matter). We have dollar coins... But maybe we can do this with a fiver! You'll need Adobe Acrobat to read it.

Strange as it may be... This is the third wine that I've been informed of that in one way or another has to do with Dachshunds. Alto Vineyards in Illinois ahs a special white they call Wiener Dog White. And I'm not kidding!

So I'll be the first to admit the World Wide Web is a  weird place with a lot of weird info. And this doesn't surprise me a bit: The World Dachshund Crazy Map! Go ahead an add yourself... You know you want to.

Don't you wish you could quit your job an do your own thing? Well Sophia deJesus did and she started Sophist Marketing Inc; a home based company that makes dog toys!

Not to be left behind in the advertising world, Glamour magazine used a Dachshund for this Ad.

Need a golf club protector? Found this silly thing at a store in Vancouver! Don't ask me where... Can't remember... Having a senior moment.

In the Joke department: If you give your dog some ice-cream would it be a Dachshundae?

Did Einstein have anything to do with Dachshunds? Well maybe not, but there's a video series for preschoolers called "Baby Einstein" and in one episode Dachshund puppets were used to count to the number five. Here's a few video screen shots: One, Two, Three.

US Airways has a policy that allows you to take your "small" pet aboard an airplane. Their web page about it features a Dachshund as the small pet!

Johnny Depp may be a famous actor now, but on 14 September 1994, at 5am, ensconced with his new girlfriend Kate Moss in the $500-a-night Mark Hotel, East 77th Street, New York, he was inadvertently dragged into a violent and destructive incident. "I'll tell you what happened," Depp says earnestly. "I was sitting on the couch in my hotel room, when a really big dachshund jumped out of the closet. I felt it was my duty to retrieve this animal, so I chased it for 20 minutes, but it wouldn't cooperate. Finally it dived out of the window. And there I was, stuck with the evidence.", referring to the smashed up furniture and room.

Looking a bit more like a lion than a Dachshund, this little guy with long hair looks like he'll be just as much trouble to care for as a real Long Haired Dachshund.

In the Scene Missing Magazine
from Tuesday, November 9, 2004, poet Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz said: "Pretty good. If there is a dachshund walking around, very good."

This original antique print is from the renowned "The Book of The Dog", published by Cassell in 1881 shows us just how early the breed was established.

Believe it or not... The Blue Jay Inn on the Pacific Highway, WA between Seattle and Tacoma in the 1930s had a illustrated general menu, die-cut in the shape of a dachshund. The orange paper cover states "Original home of the 12 inch hot dog"; inside is a hot dog menu. The folder also had die cut white paper insert (same Dachshund shape) with a "Fountain Specials" menu.

So have you seen YouTube yet? It's full of Dachshund videos! Check this one out of two dogs play fighting.

Our Featured Friend

Hi Bob, I just Googled Dachshunds and found your great website!

I have a 10 year old Doxie named Paisely. She is the baby of the family, and knows it! We just moved to a new home, and took the attached picture of Paisley in the Daisies behind our house. Even though she lived in our other house for 10 years, she adjusted really well! No surprises left in the house for us, and other than a rough first night... she had to keep checking to see if everyone was in the house..... she's done well. I think this proves that for a Doxie, home is where their People are!
