dachshund:
- "A small dog of a breed developed in Germany
for hunting badgers and having a long body, a usually shorthaired brown or
black and brown coat, drooping ears, and very short legs."
Dachshund News and
Events
Re website updates... So you may
be wondering why there have not been many updates of the site.
Our family have seen the passing of our two great dogs; Rummy
and Ginny. there's not a day goes by that I do not think about
them. I simply have not had the heart to carry on with the site.
In the good news department, I hope
to have a new dog in September:
Dessert Fox,
from a very lovely
lady I met at the Dachshund Picnic! Thank you Donna for allowing
me to once again experience all the wonder that is Dachshund!
If you have some Dachshund News, send it to me at

Dachshund Sightings
On a trip to Brazil, I thought I might see one or two
Dachshunds due to the German influence. Well it was far worse
than I thought! Nine Dachshund sightings on the first day in
Rio. Go figger. |
What/Who
is Wienerdogs? Well, the Wienerdogs site has
been on the Web since 1997, however it started out as
www.dachshund.bc.ca. The site started out as just a fun thing to
do but quickly grew into what you see here today. I'm
continually updating the page as time permits, and all the new
stuff shows up on this page, just below, so keep an eye on it! And here's a
tip: Most of the links have pop-up pictures, so if you
have a popup killer, you should disable it before proceeding.

Do you have a question you would like ask a breeder? Our network
of experienced Dachshund breeders is available to answer your
curious or troubling questions. Simply E-mail
Darrin Pettitt @ Admindac Kennel. It might take a few
days for him to get back to you so please be patient. Thanks.
Ann Carey, writer of The Dachshund: An
Owner's Guide to a Happy, Healthy Pet
said:
"I can assure you that there's no dog like this dog. No
companion as comical, as loving or as adaptable. His goal in
life is to love you, protect you, and be your very best friend."
And she is right!

2010 Wiener Walk
The
2010 Wiener Walk and
Dachshund Picnic is now done and gone. Despite the drizzly
weather, spirits were high and dogs were low. We had 138 dogs
registered. Thanks everyone for making it a Great Day!

Finding a Dachshund
If you're hoping to find a Dachshund posted here available in
your area, you might be waiting a quite a while. Please contact
a local breeder on my Canadian Breeders page, that is
available on the inside pages.
Or...
How about adopting and older dog? the
Canadian Dachshund Rescue is always looking for good homes
for dogs that for one situation or another can no longer live
with their original families.

Seems
I can never stop laughing. Since the invention of You Tube the
number of Dachshund related videos is climbing at an
unprecedented rate. Watching these videos helped me get over the
loss of our dogs.
One of my Favs is Jerry. At last count there were 5,240
clips. I think we're dog nutz!
Kohler,
the German kitchen hardware company has a great idea how to use
their facets....
Looking for a great costume idea for your next Dachshund Picnic or
wiener dog function?...
If so, try
this one out.
A funny surprise awaited me when I arrived at my sister's
home on a lake in BC.
This
giant inflatable water toy, big enough for two big kids greeted
me at the waters edge.
A heart warming story came out of West Vancouver in July 2010
when Honey, a long haired Dachshund got lost and was then found
after what could only be described as a
true ordeal.
Have you ever heard of a wiener dog draft dodger? It makes
more sense when you see the
picture.
Rakin'
It In is a video slot machine (gambling game) that sports a
Dachshund.
Have a look at these:
I think the Dachshund should have been worth a lot more! At
least they're worth more than a bag of money. And there's also a
video slot called Hot Dawg. I saw it once but didn't have a
camera with me record the visuals.
Is your dog well traveled?
OiOi (Oy-Oy) was born here in BC. Moved to Japan, then to Australia!
On August 18th, she turned 18 years old! |
Now
what could this nice lady possibly be saying about Dachshunds?
Thirsty?
Got Beer?

While Mr Winnie from the movie
Open Season 2 may look mean in this picture,
he's really a
sissy!
And in keeping with the moving picture theme as above, a
Dachshund called Mr. Deeds showed up on the TV show "The
New Adventures of Old Christine".
More
Movies: While Toy Story 2 had introduced us to Buster the
Dachshund, in TS3 Buster is about 12 years old and a fat, grey
haired, lumbering lump.
Simply sad even if it is animated.
In the "How do you say that" department, Dachshund is: Tacsko in
Hungary
Jamnik in Poland
Taksa in Russia
Can
your dog play Twister? Click and see how it's done!
Generally I hate shopping. I prefer to get in, get what
I need and get out. But sometimes you discover a great little gem
that has not even for sale.
I
found these two in Macy's Bellingham and Las Vegas! I had seen
something
similar many years ago at The Bay in Vancouver.
Ezra Jack Keats has a dachshund character called Willie in
his famous book A Snowy Day. In Prospect Park Brooklyn, New
York, In the area called imagination Playground, based on the
characters from Keats’s books, the centerpiece is a much
visited
bronze statue of Peter reading The Snowy Day while sitting on a
rock with one hand on his pet dog Willie. More book stuff over
there -> |
Have you ever turned your attention
away from your dog for just a second and then found him/her
doing the
unexpected?
Alison MacInnis, Actress in the TV show Veronica Mars was
once asked: "Is there any particular charity or movement you'd
like us to learn more about"?
The reply: "Preserving the wild dachshund herds roaming
Southeast Asia, totally worthy movement".

I just doesn't make any sense! Dachshunds on the cover of the
December 12th, 1955 Sports Illustrated magazine. Could this be
the coveted
Dachshund Racing edition?
In the 1932 Merrie Melodies Goopy Gear animated short "Moonlight
for Two", Goopy and his gal start dancing and many more join
in. A dachshund drinks liquor so potent it burns away part of
his torso leaving him much shorter than his dancing partner.
Well at least I think they are Dachshunds. Look for it at 4:45.
Books
featuring Dachshunds are few and far between. Duplicity Dogged
the Dachshund from Dixie Hemmingway is just such a book. Not to
sure if she's related to that other (more famous) author of the same name.
Have you ever thought of having your own Dachshund/Wiener
Dog website?

I have web domains
www.wienerdogs.ca and
www.wienerdogs.info and
they are for sale.
Let me know if you're interested.
Schnitzel von Krumm is a Doxie in the Hairy
Maclary series of children's picture books by Lynley Dodd. The
newest release is "Dogs
Never Climb Trees". Well especially with those little, short
legs!
Amazon.ca will have it. |
