Welcome
to page
This
is supposed to be a classy crystal Dachshund. Don't you
think it's a bit tacky? Especially considering it's from
Swarovski?
And while we're
on the subject of tacky glass Dachshunds, how about one from the
Gus Crystal Factory in Gus
Khrustalny,
Russia?
They're supposed to be world famous you know!
If
you didn't know Margret Rey, who did the Curious George series
of books also wrote a Dachshund themed book too. It's called
Pretzel the Worlds Longest Dachshund (hunt for it on another page
in my site). Well, I found this comic strip about Pretzel in his
latter years. It's big so a it will appear in a new web page
when you click the link.
More
art yet... Joan Dankers did these pencil drawings for a set of dog
cards from the 1980s. There's a short haired with a pup, long
haired and a wire haired.
Also in the series are these two from J Beaudion and
Geri Reimer.
I'm not quite sure what this token/coins is supposed to be
for.
The smaller writing on the back say something like "Tastes good
with the dog." What?
Edmund Otto,
who was more familiar as called Otto-Eichwald, modeled this wonderful
detailed dachshund in 1912
Germany for the Rosenthal Company. His many works of porcelain were made at the Art Department of the Selb Kunstabteilung
factory.

While Dachshunds are used in advertising like in this
1948 ad for "Sanfordized" collar dry cleaning treatment,
rarely are there Dachshund marketing props. But this blow up
Dachshund from from a Seagram's Gin promotion has got to be one
of the funniest. The dog has "Seagram's and Grapefruit Juice Makes a Great Salty Dog"
written on it.
Good dog or bad dog... Every dog needs a comfy place to sleep.
This simple Dachshund Bun Bed is ideal and not to hard to make
yourself.
Waxie
Daxie is the name of this fun tale about a Dachshund by Samuel
Marshak. It's from the 1950s.
"Die Schönsten Rassehunde" is the name of a series
of German coins depicting "The Most Beautiful Dog
Breeds". There are ten coins in the complete set. Doxies
are of course the best.
In
Germany, this cute Dachshund toy is often found tied to
pack-packs.
You an Art Connoisseur?
In July of 2000, Foreign Objects, a show of STUTZ artwork was
the story of the artist's road trip through Europe with her trusty companion, a dachshund named
Olly. What's your art inspiration?
Have
you been to a movie in India lately? Did you manage to catch
"A Dog's Day"? The movie by Indian film by Director Murali Nair
won a Cannes Film Festival award in 2001. It's a political fable featuring an
Indian dictator, and outraged
dog, and an international crisis. And the dog is a Dachshund!
I
bet Ya didn't know this either: The mascot of the American Women's World Cup Soccer Team is a
Dachshund!

I had to laugh out loud when I saw this promotional picture
that was sent to me by Stephanie Chuchman. But I can't remember a
Dachshund ever appearing on the TV show Bewitched!
Tuula
from Finland and Marijke from Holland have been providing
seasonal online Dachshund greeting cards for some time now and
if you've never checked them out... Take a look and send someone
a surprise!
In
referring to the lead characters' performance in the movie
Psycho, Widget Walls from rottentomatoes.com, says "Vince Vaughn's Norman Bates is about as terrifying as a tranquilized
Dachshund." I
guess that's bad.
Betcha didn't know that there is a live action video and
humorous adaptation of a book by Dick Gackenbach. Pepper And All The Legs (book from 1978 and video
from 1993) is a Dachshunds view of the world. A tiny
Dachshund finally finds a way to get up the stairs and, once there, encounters various misadventures. It teaches about maintaining self-esteem no matter the circumstances.
A
true talent from England, Mike Sibley captures life-like images
of Dachshunds and other creatures in graphite pencil. I have to
say that I'm very impressed the detail Mike puts into his
artwork and they might just some of the best drawings I've ever seen. I've
posted three of his Dachshund drawings in full resolution to keep the
detail high, but they may take some time to load.
Smooth haired,
Long haired and
Wire haired.
So
I'm always finding advertising that features Dachshunds. But a
handful of them actually feature a Dachshund to sell dog food!
This one's a newspaper Ad from 1957.
