For the 25th birthday of the Happy Meal, McDonald's had a special promotion that featured 12 breeds of the lovable The Dog inspired plush toys by the Artlist Collection. The toys were available in Happy Meals beginning April 2, 2004 through April 29, 2004 and a Dachshund was #2.

From the McDonalds Press Release: "Dachshund: This petite figurine that imitates one of the most popular dogs in the U.S. will delight children with its warm chocolate-colored eyes."

In referring to the Questair Venture airplane, Budd Davisson said "It is critical that the pilot sit high enough to take complete advantage of the head-room; otherwise, he can't see over the long, dachshund-type snoot when coming in to land."

I never thought Dachshunds had long snoots?

Dachshunds appeared in art from all periods. This woodcutting print from 1560AD shows Dachshunds type short legged dogs with men. This portrait of Dachshund with Owner by Gerda Wegener comes from 1912.

Yes it's true, there is a company that writes computer software called Dachshund Software! Don't know if the company mascot is a Doxie, but there is a Dachshund in the logo!

Dog Psychiatry!

Have you ever wondered why your dog might do this? Well, top level Dog Psychiatrists have concluded that they do this because they are Happy!

But if you see them rolling around outside, perhaps rubbing on a particular spot, then they have found something smelly! What they are doing is rubbing against it to make themselves more interesting to other dogs. Unfortunately, it may stink to us humans.

In 1957 the Duke of Marlborough (aka The Marquess of Blandford) appeared in a magazine photo with his new JEEP along with the family and his Dachshunds. See Royalty does prefer Dachshunds.

Can a Dachshund be a hero?

Plucky little Dachshund Emsie saved her owner’s life in the Free State, South African  town of Philippolis.

According to the Volksblad newspaper, Elsje-Marie Lombard, aged 3, noticed a venomous Cape cobra about 30cm away from her and began screaming.

Emsie the Dachshund then rushed in and grabbed the snake’s tail, shaking the creature a few times before throwing it away. This allowed Elsje-Marie to run to her mother,  and the snake was then killed by Elsje-Marie’s father Jacques Lombard.

Near Sighted Dachsund
Trained Professionals Showing a bit of favoritism, I have to say that I really like the Art of Matt Rinard. I first bought a print of his in New Orleans in 2000 (it can be found inside).  But here's a handful more samples that feature Dachshunds. And I hear that he actually grew up with a Dachshund. If you like 'em you can get them on line at http://www.mattrinard.com.
