Walkies Remember that new puppies are very fearful at about eight weeks of age. So if you take for Dachsie home early be sure to avoid very loud noises, sudden movements and other big dogs. You don't want to have to send your pooch to a shrink!

Did you know that the city/town which has the highest number of Dachshunds per person is right here in British Columbia Canada! Yup, it's true. The town is called Riondel and it's located on Kootenay Lake. At one time there was 11 Dachshunds for its 350 residents.

In the movie Mystery Men, a black and tan dachshund is owned by character "The Shoveller" and his family But you have to have a keen eye as he only appears twice and for less than a second each time!

Alfred Hitchcock must of loved Dachsies. He cast one in the 1936 thriller "Secret Agent". The wire hared dachshund has some kind of link with his owner and starts to howl when the "Spy" is killed.


1560AD. That year saw the first mention of a Dachshund like dog in a French hunting manual.

Did you know that the long hair on the underside of your long-haired Dachshund is called his plume and the hair on his ears is called his Feather feathers? Also, no one truly knows the origin of the long-haired Dachshund. Some experts believe that spaniels were introduced into the species to produce longer locks.
