Clean, that's how some people describe short haired dachshunds. They are fastidiously clean and with near cat like cleaning habits they almost never have that "doggy" odor.
It is commonly agreed that the Dachshund
as we know him came out of Germany. John Hutchinson Cook, known until his death in 1994 as
'Mr. Dachshund' by those in the dog world, and a noted breeder and judge, had done endless
research on this breed which was so close to his heart.
Here's a funny picture which is making the rounds on the Internet? I've received it 5 times! Cute. |
Here's another funny picture! Wanda Goulden had some fun with her computer in creating this picture. Do you have any Dachshund Nick
Nacks? I discovered this Dachsie Serving Plate in 100 Mile House BC. It's from Lane & Co - 1956. I've The Ty company has made hundreds of little stuffed "beanie" babies and animals. The
Dachshund which they made is now discontinued. It was made in two different sizes and carries the name of "Weenie". Some say it doesn't look like a
Doxie. Is it supposed to? If you find it at an auction or flea market, you'll pay anywhere from $20 - $30 for it.
Did you know that Steve Martin in his book Pure Drivel (page 61) refers to that picture of the dogs playing poker and writes, "why there's never been a wiener dog in these paintings".

Emma Brombin tells us of "David
Hockeny's book Dogs Days illustrating his two dear red dachshunds Stanley and
Boodgie. This is a
collection of 84 drawings and paintings Hockney did of his dogs since September 1993. It
is a delightful book and it makes a great gift for any art and dachshund lover." Want to see silly? If yes, then checkout Wienerdog Races on the web! Odin
